When the sun hits airplanes and buildings painted in darker colors, their exteriors absorb significantly more heat and get hotter than those painted white. We looked to nature, using an approach called biomimicry, to find a solution in an unexpected source: an eggplant.

Our eggplant-inspired paint lets solar heat pass through the topcoat pigments to a white primer coat that reflects heat — similar to how an eggplant’s skin keeps its interior from getting hot and rotting. This paint helps reduce the exterior surface temperatures of aircrafts and buildings up to 25 degrees, while providing savings on energy costs. Now paint is cooler than you think.
