Paints from PPG are everywhere, making an impact in some surprising ways. They are helping to improve the air quality in cities, cool down buildings on hot days, and keep self-driving cars moving safely. Discover how innovative #PaintsWithPurpose from PPG are changing the way the world sees paint.

Paint that makes the temperature drop?

Heat-reflecting paint that cools interiors and reduces energy costs.

Though we typically use this technology to keep airplanes and buildings cool, we went to one of the hottest cities we could find to test it in a novel way: painting cool walking paths for dogs. Pups can overheat from extended exposure to hot sidewalks, so we wanted to give them a place that would make their walks more comfortable. Watch the video.

Technology inspired by an eggplant.

What do eggplants and paint have in common? More than you think.

Technology inspired by an eggplant.

When the sun hits airplanes and buildings painted in darker colors, their exteriors absorb significantly more heat and get hotter than those painted white. We looked to nature, using an approach called biomimicry, to find a solution in an unexpected source: an eggplant.

Our eggplant-inspired paint lets solar heat pass through the topcoat pigments to a white primer coat that reflects heat — similar to how an eggplant’s skin keeps its interior from getting hot and rotting. This paint helps reduce the exterior surface temperatures of aircrafts and buildings up to 25 degrees, while providing savings on energy costs. Now paint is cooler than you think.

Paint that helps self-driving cars see?

Visibility enhancing paint for autonomous vehicles.

Learn More >

Tomorrow’s roads could be safer, thanks to a little paint. We’ve developed a paint for self-driving cars that LiDAR could easily detect, no matter how dark or light, no matter what the weather condition.

Paint that helps reverse pollution?

Paint that contributes to reducing emissions.

Learn More >

This isn’t your everyday paint — but maybe it should be. Our pollution-reducing paint transforms a myriad of common pollutants into harmless materials, destroys “organic” dirt sticking onto surfaces, and contributes to reducing harmful emissions.

Paint that’s made for a rainy day?

Durable, all-weather-ready paint that protects exteriors.

Learn More >

Finally, a paint that works beautifully, rain or shine, even in cold weather. With our durable, water-resistant formula, you can now paint exterior surfaces without worry when rain is anticipated on short notice. The forecast is looking good.

Paint that absorbs sound?

Paint that dampens vibrations and reduces noise in car cabins.

Learn More >

Do you hear that? We don’t either. Our sound-absorbing paint makes your driving experience quieter by damping and stiffening body panels and acting as a sound barrier. It also helps manufacturers reduce car weight for improved gas mileage. We like the sound of that.
